CGGC Archives Museum: Putting History in Your Hands

28Aug

History doesn't stop, and neither does our Archives Museum!

Many people call the Archives Museum the CGGC's best kept secret, and I'll have to agree. If you haven't been in the archive in our Findlay offices, (or if you haven't been there in a while), then watch below for an updated tour of the Archives Museum with Curator Jim Marckel (first shown at Triennial Conference in July)!

Archive Museum Report with Curator Jim Marckel

The Archives Museum’s mission is to collect, store, preserve, and catalog materials that relate to the life, ministry and history of the Churches of God, General Conference. Materials such as artifacts, memorabilia, books, pamphlets, publications, programs, minutes, and personal papers are then made available for research and display. The Museum routinely shifts and edits displays to feature different topics, and is always accepting new items for processing and preservation. All of this is done so that way the history of the CGGC is up to date and accessible.

Serving You

The Archives Museum is here to serve anyone interested in the history of the CGGC. First, take part in a digital tour right on our website where you can see pictures, artifacts, memorabilia and more and learn a little bit about each item along the way. You can also click the link below to submit a research request. Curator Jim Marckel will receive the request, and respond swiftly with whatever information he can track down in the archive. This is a great resource for our Winebrenner Seminary students, especially during the history and polity courses they might take.

Big plans for the Future of the Archives Museum

We’re excited to announce that the Archives Museum is becoming more accessible than ever! The Museum has begun the process of digitizing and making certain books available online at no cost (of course). While physical documents and items are nice, we recognize that most people won’t be able to visit the Archives in Findlay, so we're bringing the Archives Museum to you, one digitized piece at a time.

Currently, you can find a large collection of digital publications on our website, easy to read, download, and keep for your own records and research. These documents are entirely text searchable for easy research! For instance, we have fully digitized books, articles, and publications: Digital Church Publications
