The Youngest Church in the CGGC

17Oct

What might be the youngest church in the CGGC will be having their second worship service on October 25th, 2025, and if you’re in the Kenton, Ohio neighborhood, we encourage you to come and support this great new expression of the church.

Stone Table Church of God is a nascent church, started in the Great Lakes Region only last month with an outdoor worship service in Kenton. Stone Table’s launch is part of a much larger initiative from the Great Lakes Conference (GLC). Watch the recap and next week's promo below.

The GLC’s vision has become quite large. After much prayer, they believe that God is calling the conference to plant a church in every county seat in Ohio, and Michigan. For those who like counting counties, that’s 171!

The first milestone of that goal was manifested on September 27th, 2025 when a group of believers from Wharton Church, College First Church, and UF Campus Ministries held an outdoor worship service in partnership with St. John’s Evangelical Church. Held in St. John’s parking lot, the outdoor service was led by John Wesley Korani, a worship leader at UF Campus Ministries and who is eagerly looking forward to leading Stone Table as it takes off.

Executive Director of the GLC, Dr. David Odegard started on this vision with a prayer walk in Kenton, the county seat of Hardin County. This discovery prayer walk led Dr. Odegard to start calling pastors and leaders in the city, including the mayor. A few tentative conversations with local pastors in a coffee shop turned serious when one of the pastors, nonchalantly said, “Maybe you could plant your church out of our building.”

To Dave, the proposition sounded too good to be true, but it wasn’t. Pastor Randal of St. John’s Evangelical Church offered up the church building as a place for Stone Table to start meeting. It’s that kind of collaboration and openness to partnership that signals the Holy Spirit is at work.

During Stone Table’s first worship service, Dave spoke told the story of how Stone Table, and the mission in Kenton came to be, and part of that story is of vital lessons learned about how NOT to plant churches. Dave reflected on how well funded church plants can swoop into a community, and frustrate or inadvertently antagonize preexistent churches and congregations. That was never Stone Table’s goal.

Kenton already has 18 churches in and close to the city. Stone Table isn’t looking to just be the 19th, but they're following the Lord’s lead to help unite the churches and Christians in Kenton for a single goal.

Dave talked with the other pastors, and they established the goal for every single man, woman, and child to hear the gospel in Hardin County. It’s going to take all hands-on deck, and every church and Christian person in Kenton to get the job done.

Speaking about his own testimony during the service, Dr. Odegard said that “[The Lord] will do the work if we raise our hands. It’s hard work, but he’s there.”

The next worship service of Stone Table Church is Saturday, October 25th, 2025, at 211 E. Carroll St, Kenton Ohio, 43326. The service will feature Trunk or Treat starting at 3 P.M., food at 4:30, and the worship service will kick off at 5:15. Come meet the community and worship together.
