There have been several prayer concerns from our Global Reach ministries that I want to bring an update on in today’s blog.
First of all, many of you have been praying for the wife of one of our field directors in Asia who was diagnosed with cervical cancer earlier this summer (I typically don’t share the names of our Asian ministry staff due to security concerns in the countries in which we serve). This dear sister has undergone several treatments thus far and yesterday I received news that the first scan to measure the results of the ongoing treatment showed that the treatment is killing cancer cells and that the size of the tumor decreased. Praise the Lord! Treatments will continue, but this was very good news and gave our dear brother and sister a lot of encouragement as they face a very aggressive cancer. Please continue to pray for her healing.
Mike and Dawn VanDervort (pictured below), directors of Project Help Haiti, returned safely to the U.S. late last week. Again, this is another enormous praise. As most of you are aware, Haiti has become increasingly dangerous in recent months due to the violence and actions at the hands of local gangs. You most likely saw the news a few weeks ago where seventeen North American missionaries were kidnapped and are being held hostage for ransom (they were not connected to the CGGC or Project Help Haiti, but are still being held hostage). With the potential for violence against North Americans increasing significantly, the decision was made to bring Mike and Dawn home a little earlier than planned and as quietly as possible. They will continue to provide leadership to our Project Help Haiti staff from the U.S. in the coming months. Continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Haiti. The latest reports show that fuel is in limited supply which threatens a lot of normal functions and operations in a country where many ministries like ours depend upon gas-powered generators. Where fuel is available (on the black market) it is going for as much as $25 (U.S.) per gallon. You can imagine the impact this is having on the economy in Haiti where people already struggle with the day-to-day necessities of life. These pressures along with the danger and violence from gang activity is making day-to-day life in Haiti in much more difficult.

Lastly, some of you probably saw a request for prayer for Global Reach assistant director, Travis Helm (pictured below) earlier this week. On Sunday afternoon/evening, Travis suffered a major heart attack! After a few days in a couple of hospitals, I’m so grateful to report that Travis was released from the hospital Thursday afternoon and is resting at home. We are so grateful for God’s mercy, care and healing touch with our brother Travis. I actually got to speak with him yesterday afternoon and although he was tired, it was so good to hear his voice. We are grateful for the Lord’s provision for our brother and ask that you continue to pray for Travis as he recovers at home.

You have the opportunity to hear more about the ministry of Global Reach around the world this coming Thursday, November 18th at 7:00 p.m. EST. Global Reach will be holding their Virtual Summit on Thursday evening and you have the opportunity to get the latest updates from our fields as well as hear directly from some of our Global Reach staff, missionaries and field directors. It’s a great way to hear the latest news from the field and connect with our brothers and sisters who are serving the Lord around the globe. For a link to the zoom meeting, please reach out to Kelly Donat at .
One last item to put on your radar. Global Reach will be participating in Giving Tuesday on Tuesday, November 30th. This year’s focus is supporting the work of our field directors around the world. We have the opportunity to raise $10,000 in one day that will support our field leaders as they provide essential leadership to our ministry operations around the globe. Be watching the website (www.cggc.org) and the Global Reach social media pages for updates and links to the giving page.

Thank you for your prayers in recent weeks and your ongoing prayers for our brothers and sisters around the world. God is doing a great work through their lives and ministries and we have the privilege of partnering with them. Let’s continue to hold them up before the Father as they serve in challenging and increasingly difficult circumstances, praying that they would not grow weary in doing good!
Christ’s Peace,
Lance
