Celebrating The Days

03Sep

The Gamerco Church of God in New Mexico celebrated their pastors, Jacob and Haley Day, in outstanding fashion, hosting their Ordination, Child Dedication (6 month old Samuel), and marriage vow renewal all at the same time!

Both Jacob and Haley Day were ordained by Pastor Kendall Hughes, Director of the Western Region. Pastor Kendall said of the event, “We are blessed to have them as part of the Western Region. [They are] truly something to rejoice.”

Haley and Jacob have been the co-pastors of Gamerco Church of God since 2022, and have been serving at the church since 2019 when they moved into the area. Haley and Jacob have both completed their master’s degrees from Winebrenner Seminary, (Haley 2021, Jacob 2024) while serving at the church, hosting ACTS Teams, and serving as missionaries to the Southwest area.

As Winebrenner graduates, Jacob and Haley are a testament to the power of online theological education, where missionaries serving in the field can be equipped and educated with high quality theological training while they are also imbedded in their practical context.

When asked about what ordination means to them, Jacob said:

“Ordination means the culmination of the process happening here. When we moved here, we were not the pastors. I hadn’t even started seminary classes. But in moving here we knew God had a plan, and whatever that plan may have been, we were going to follow him. We decided to have it here at Gamerco COG because they have been on this journey with us.”

If ordination was one milestone, then the dedication of Jacob and Haley’s son, 6 month old Samuel James Day was surely another. It was a beautiful event as they were surrounded by their families,” Pastor Kendall said. “We rejoice in the hope we have for Sammy in his walk to and with Christ.”

Dedicating a child into the church is a significant opportunity for the church to prove that it’s a body of believers, not just a church. There is a collective responsibility in helping families raise their children to know the Lord, and it’s an honor to be a part of that.

Pastor Jacob provided an update on Sammy, saying, “He sure had an exciting time this past week with family in. He is growing like crazy, wearing 6-9 month clothes and weighing at 16 lbs. This past few weeks we have started him on baby food. He is a super calm baby, and loved all the attention this past week.”

The renewal of the Day’s wedding vows took place during the ceremony too. The Days have been married for 10 years, as of August 8th, 2025 (happy anniversary!). More than half of their marriage has been spent with the Gamerco church as their family.

When asked about why they chose to renew their vows at this ceremony, Jacob replied with a thoughtful explanation that considered their journey as a couple, the presence of their family, and the desire to let the church know just how close they’ve become.

“Around our anniversary every year Haley and I take time to reflect and look back at our wedding video and pictures. In doing that, we decided it would be a great time to renew our vows. We knew most of our family would be down here for ordination, but we also wanted to renew our vows to show the church here that they had become as close as family to us. When we got married in 2015 we said the traditional marriage vows. This time we decided to write our own vows. With the ups and downs of life in the past ten years we had a lot more to say in our personal vows.”
