Reflecting with Gratitude on this Thanksgiving

28Nov

For the last two years, we’ve used this Black Friday blog as an opportunity to express our gratitude both to the Lord and to those faithful Christians and institutions which do His good work here on earth. We won’t be breaking this fast-forming tradition this year. But we will keep this one brief since we’re aware most of our readers are sleepy from festivities or are out securing deals on Christmas gifts.

We have a lot to be grateful for as a denomination this year, and the Lord continues to richly bless the Churches of God, General Conference.

First, we haven’t mentioned it in the last few weeks but it’s the 200th Anniversary of the CGGC this year, and the Lord has graciously provided this body of believers each and every year. We have 200 years to be grateful for. 200 years, but thousands upon thousands of faithful believers who’ve preached the gospel, shared their testimonies, given baptisms, ministered to the young and the old. We’re grateful for the manifold witnesses of the thousands of people who make up the CGGC in all our churches around the globe, and to God whose fidelity to us is ever present.

We’re grateful for new churches, and revitalized churches. For churches springing up in the unlikeliest places, and to new life springing up in the unlikeliest churches, we’ve shared stories this year about God doing amazing things in churches that are multiplying, remaking themselves, and growing.

We’re grateful to the saints who’ve gone before us. We’ve lost spiritual giants, and we’ve seen pastors step away from full time ministry into well-earned retirement. It’s a gift from God to bear witness to a life well lived in service to God’s kingdom, and legacies that inspire us.

We’re also grateful for new people who’ve come to serve. In particular, to our two new employees this year, Stanley Lambert and Hunter Meyers, both committed to our Haiti field and keeping operations running during extremely difficult circumstances.

We’re grateful for every church who are reaching out into their communities to make the kind of impact that Jesus and his disciples made, feeding the hungry, healing the sick, comforting the broken, and saving the lost.

Lastly, we’re grateful to for all those who support financially the ministries of the CGGC, whether that’s the day-to-day operations, or for specific items, like our Haiti Emergency Relief Supplies request. The generosity of our donors never ceases to amaze us, and there is so much we simply wouldn’t be able to achieve or make possible without our donors. As we approach the end of this year, our last giving campaign is our Share the Blessing campaign. We’ve chosen 4 places where your giving can have maximum impact in our international fields. In a spirit of gratitude, and sharing the blessings that God has given you this year, will you consider supporting:
