Kenya and the Southwest are Calling You

20Mar

Kenya and the Southwest are calling! Our 3 ACTS Teams are set to go for this summer, two in July (USA Southwest, and Mexico) and one in September (Kenya). We’re happy to announce that the Mexico trip for July 18-25 is full and we are no longer accepting applications. Yet, the Southwest ACTS Team to New Mexico and our Kenya ACTS Team still have spots open. Is the Lord calling you to serve in a cross-cultural context?

USA Southwest/Navajo

The ACTS Team to Southwest, USA will see you traveling to our Gamerco Church of God in Gamerco, New Mexico. Gamerco is a self-supported church with a multi-cultural group of worshippers led by Pastors Jacob and Haley Day. They host ACTS Teams yearly and the experience is always compelling for those who go. For many people, the USA Southwest ACTS Team is a great first mission trip because it is cross-cultural experience, yet still set within the United States. This helps to keep the cost low, and the travel short in comparison to other trips.

Teams will be involved with some children's and adult ministry opportunities and various types of work projects ranging from simple maintenance, painting, and possible construction opportunities. We encourage people to sign up regardless of their experience in ministry or labor as we have room for beginners and experts to meaningfully contribute. The primary goals of every ACTS Team trip are to do ministry, build relationships, partner with a Global Reach field, and to grow closer to God.

If you’re excited about the prospect of doing ministry in the USA Southwest for a week, the application deadline is closing fast. Please submit an application on our page here by the deadline, April 1st:

Kenya

Our ACTS Teams trips to Kenya will have you travel to the town of Sagana in the Kirinyaga District, North of Nairobi, Kenya’s capital. This Kenya ACTS Teams will be lead by Pastor April Ocasio of Uplift Church in Halifax, PA. The CGGC partners with the Voice of the Gospel Ministry (VOGM) to train pastors and assist the 14 churches in the region.

You can learn more about Kenya by reading our 2023 Kenya Mission Update:

Teams will meet with Pastor Joseph Mwaura, the field director over the Kenya churches, and will work with local school children to teach them about the Bible, do crafts, and further them along in their discipleship journey. Last year, more than 80 children from Sagana came to the church to be fed, listen to Bible stories, and play games. The ACTS Team helped the Sagana church revitalize their children ministry there, and they are looking to continue that work this year. If you’re able and excited to work with children to know the Lord better, this ACTS Team trip is for you.

Is funding a concern? If you’re from the Allegheny Regional Conference, the ARC Foundation has funding opportunities to support ACTS Team applicants. Whether you want to go to Kenya or the USA Southwest, the ARC has $500 scholarships for you. Pastor Ben Tobias from the ARC (and the former Director of Global Reach) said that, “A mission trip, especially in another culture, really opens out eyes to see what God is doing in other areas, and it broadens our perspective on who God is and our role as disciples. It’s also a first step for those considering serving cross-culturally.” Ben continued, saying, “Don’t let money become the major factor, because, as I’ve seen through the years, I’ve yet to see anybody unable to go on a mission trip because of money. Once you start the process, it’s amazing how God opens doors.” You can learn more about that scholarship here:
